Vestry of St. John’s Church

Although St. John’s Church at Western Run was mentioned within a broader historic district nomination, its unique architectural and cultural value as an individual property had not been fully recognized. The church’s Gothic Revival design, historic outbuildings, and surrounding cemetery landscape form a remarkably intact ensemble that tells the story of nearly two centuries of rural parish life. Without a dedicated nomination, many of these features lacked the specific recognition and protection they deserved.

Progress Preservation prepared an individual National Register nomination for St. John’s Western Run, elevating it from a supporting element in a district listing to a stand-alone historic resource. This nomination documented the church’s architectural integrity, detailed the history and use of its outbuildings, and described the significance of its landscape as part of the property’s heritage. By securing this designation, the project ensures that all aspects of St. John’s Western Run are acknowledged, celebrated, and safeguarded for future generations.
